Dr. Banooni explains what endometriosis ablation is. Endometriosis ablation is a procedure that surgically destroys the lining of the uterus. The goal of endometrial ablation is to reduce menstrual flow.
Dr. Banooni describes his recent encounter with a "huge, ugly fibroid". Patient was a 34 year old female with pressure and abdominal discomfort. The fibroids were removed with a 2-3 inch incision. In the video Dr. Banooni shows images of the fibroid. This led to a quick recovery and 6 weeks later patient feels like a different person.
Dr. Banooni recently saw a 28 year old patient with a large fibroid that was attached to the uterus separately which obviously was causing tremendous pain. In this video, Dr. Banooni discusses how he determines various different removal techniques in these cases. One method is a morcellation which is an incision that removes the fibroid piece by piece. This procedure is banned by many hospitals due to the increased risk of a potential cancerous tumor being excacerbated. Another option is a laparoscopy or an open abdominal procedure. Dr. Banooni believe morcellators are good options in young patients, while the other methods could work in older patients.

Dr. Payman Banooni discusses ovarian cysts, fluid-filled or solid masses which have formed in the ovaries. Frequently, cysts are benign and many will dissipate on their own. However, some cysts can cause pain and though it is rare, some may be cancerous. Persistent or painful Cysts are typically removed via minimally invasive Laparoscopy. An open abdominal procedure is needed if the cyst is larger or looks cancerous. Learn more about Dr. Banooni's Institute For Fibroid Therapy.
